About Fish Tank Atlas
Fish Tank Atlas is a free, plain-language reference for freshwater aquarium fish: what each species needs, which fish can live together, and why.
Most fishkeeping advice online is scattered across forum threads and articles that disagree with each other. We collect the facts from several references, compare them, and show our sources and reasoning on every page, so you can trust the answer or check it yourself.
We start with the fish people ask about most and add new species, plants and tank size guides every week.
Who edits this site
Marin Hale is the pen name of the editor responsible for Fish Tank Atlas: what we cover, how verdicts are decided, and fixing mistakes.
We’re open about how the work is done. Finding sources, extracting facts with their quotes, drafting page text and the editorial review itself are all AI-assisted. In that review, every value that drives a tank mate verdict is checked against the quoted sources, and the decision and its reasoning are published on the page it affects. Numbers in the text are checked against the data automatically. Where sources still disagree on other facts, we mark them with † rather than hide it.
